Ducks slide into St. Louis

Hockey Betting Lines

12/28/2008 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Anaheim Ducks will try to avoid a fourth consecutive loss when they visit the St. Louis Blues for tonight's encounter at Scottrade Center.

The Ducks are 1-2-1 on a five-game road trip that ends tonight and they've lost the last three outings on that swing after picking up a win in Edmonton on December 19.

Anaheim is just 8-7-2 as the visiting team this season and will return to Orange County for a three-game homestand, which begins against Columbus on New Year's Eve.

The Ducks earned a point in Saturday's loss as it was handed an overtime loss in Dallas. Mike Modano ripped a one-timer past Jean-Sebastien Giguere with 1:26 remaining in OT to give the Stars the 4-3 victory over Anaheim.

Brendan Morrison lit the lamp twice and Chris Kunitz netted Anaheim's other goal as the club dropped its third straight game by a 4-3 margin. Giguere was tested throughout the night, logging 34 saves.

Meanwhile, the Blues earned an impressive win Saturday even if it was just the club's second victory in its last nine games. St. Louis hosted the San Jose Sharks and beat the NHL's best club this season in a shootout.

Brad Winchester scored the equalizer in the third period and tallied the game- winner in the shootout, as the Blues edged San Jose, 3-2, notching their first win over the Sharks since the 2006-07 season.

St. Louis' David Perron and San Jose's Ryane Clowe were the only players to score through the first four shooters, with each tallying on a backhander. Winchester, going first in the third round, fired a shot under Evgeni Nabokov's glove to give St. Louis the edge. Manny Legace then stopped Joe Pavelski's attempt to seal the win for the Blues.

Perron scored in regulation, while Legace stopped 24 shots for the Blues, who hadn't beaten the Sharks since January 20, 2007. Since then San Jose had defeated St. Louis seven consecutive times -- including a 5-4 shootout victory on November 6.

The Blues are currently last in the Western Conference with 31 points and are 27 points behind the Sharks in the standings.

Saturday's test kicked off a three-game homestand for the Blues that will end Tuesday against New Jersey. St. Louis is 9-7-2 on its home ice this season.

Tonight marks the fourth and final regular-season meeting of the season between the Ducks and Blues. Anaheim has a 2-0-1 record against the Blues with St. Louis picking up an overtime victory on November 21 at Scottrade Center.

The Ducks have won four of the last five meetings, but has lost three straight in St. Louis.

Super Bowl XLIII Betting Odds

Super Bowl XLIII, the Arizona Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Super Bowl XLIII is now set, the Arizona Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Steelers will meet each other on February 1st in Tampa's Raymond James Stadium to battle it out for the coveted Lombardi Trophy. The game kicks off at 6:00pm ET on NBC with announcers Al Michaels and John Madden covering the on-field action. Super Bowl XLIII betting odds at online bookmaker MySportsbook.com have the Steelers listed as an early -6.5 against the spread favorite.Super Bowl XLIII Betting Odds

Pittsburgh earned their passage to the big game by beating their division rival, the Baltimore Ravens, 23-14 in yesterday's AFC Championship Game. The Steelers jumped on Baltimore early, building a 13-0 first half lead, and never let up on their way to a fairly easy win. Although the Ravens did close to within two points in the fourth quarter, it never appeared as if they had enough offense to pull off the upset.

The Steelers dominating defense held Baltimore to a total of 198 yards while allowing them to convert just three third downs in 13 attempts. Pittsburgh also forced quarterback Joe Flacco into three interceptions, one of which safety Troy Polamalu returned fourty yards for a touchdown.

The Cardinals, by far the playoff team with the longest odds to reach Super Bowl XLIII, did so yesterday with a 32-25 upset of the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship. Arizona charged out of the gates and built a 24-6 halftime lead that had the Eagles venerable defense reeling. Quarterback Kurt Warner and wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald did most of the damage, connecting on three first half touchdowns.

Arizona, however, could not sustain their momentum and the Eagles took a 25-24 with 10:45 left to play in the fourth. The Cardinals, with the franchise's first Super Bowl appearance hanging in the balance, mounted a fourteen play, 72 yard touchdown drive that consumed 7:52 off the clock. Warner hit running back Tim Hightower on a short screen for the go-ahead, game clinching score that will forever live in Cardinal infamy.

MySportsbook.com's Super Bowl XLIII Betting Odds:

Pittsburgh Steelers -6.5 (-110), Over 46.5 (-110), -260 (Money line)

Arizona Cardinals +6.5 (-110), Under 46.5 (-110), +220 (Money line)

Matt Foust won both of his conference championship plays yesterday and he is ready to serve up plenty of Super Bowl action. Each individual play costs $15.00, however, MySportsbook.com recommends purchasing Matt's NFL Playoff Package which includes all of Matt's Super Bowl props and picks from just $45.00.

Brandon Roy Favorite to Win 2007 NBA Rookie of the Year

Portland TrailBlazer’s guard, Brandon Roy, is MySportsbook.com’s overwhelming favorite to win the NBA Rookie of the Year odds.

Despite missing 20 games due to an injury earlier this season, Roy has definitely put up the best numbers of his 1st year peers. In 32 games, Roy is averaging 15.3 PPG, 4.2 boards and 3.5 assists in over 33 minutes of play per game. While most rookies breakdown as the season progresses (see Morrison), Roy is only getting stronger as his playing time and scoring average has increased each month.

With 30 or so games left in the regular season, Roy isn’t a lock for the award by any means. Other rookies are putting together some pretty impressive campaigns and a few could give Roy a run for the award with increased playing time. Heading the list is first pick, Andrea Bargnani of the Toronto Raptors. Even though he has started only two games all season, Bargnani is averaging 10.3 PPPG while shooting 35% from deep.

Randy Foye of the Minnesota Timberwolves could be set to give Roy the best competition NBA Rookie of the Year betting lines. With the benching of Mike James, Foye looks like he could be the starter in the T-Wolves backcourt for the rest of the season. So far, Foye has averaged 9 PPG and 2.4 assists in just under 21 minutes per game. With his new role of starter, Foye’s numbers will definitely increase. In his first game as the new starting guard this past Sunday, Foye had 10 points; five rebounds and 8 assists. More importantly, he logged 34 minutes of playing time; his third highest run of the season.

Adam Morrison, of the Charlotte Bobcats, was the favorite early on in the season after averaging 15+ PPG through the first month of the season. Ever since his torrid start, Morrison’s point production has declined each month. This really isn’t surprising, considering at 6’8” he only weighs 205 lbs. Obviously he will need to hit the weights big time during the off-season in order to keep from breaking down in the future.
